Getting My Boys into Running

The past few weeks Noah and I have been running together! Noah turned 9 this summer. He is a pretty fit kid. He has practically no body fat and he's pretty strong. However, his endurance is not the best. He started soccer this past Sunday, and because we've been running together I could really see the improvement in his stamina.

We started off just doing 1 mile 3 times a week and now we're up to 1.5 miles 3 times. This is in addition to all the running he does during soccer 4 times a week. I'm so proud of him!

I can tell the running bug has bitten him too, because he's ready to go as soon as I walk in the door after getting home from work.

"Are we running today, Britt?", he eagerly asks already waiting by the door in his New Balance running shoes. "Yup, let me change.", I reply.

I love it <3

Do you have someone in your life that has recently found their new love of running?

Becoming a Lean Lifting Machine

I thought I would show you all a little of what I've been up to the past 8 weeks.

I shoveled some snow after one of our bigger storms in December and had a nagging pain in my left shoulder for a few weeks. It was just a slight sharp pain that would occur a few times a day if I moved my arm in just the wrong way.

Being a physical therapist, I cannot afford to have any "bum parts". I decided I needed to do some strengthening. One of the most common issues I treat is rotator cuff tendonitis and rotator cuff tears. I did not need this to happen to me down the road.

Prevention is key.

However, I didn't want to start a strengthening program just for my shoulders. I wanted to work my whole body and start building up my muscle mass all over.  More muscle = higher metabolism = lower body fat percentage.

In addition to starting a strengthening program, I have over-hauled my diet too.  I'm eating cleaner, more whole foods essentially and less processed crap. I'm eating more fruits and veggies throughout my day than I ever have. I think I'm actually getting the recommended number of servings per day (5-7)!!

The strength program I'm following I found on BodyBuilding.Com - It's Jamie Eason's LiveFit Program.
Have any of you ever heard of it?

This is the program: Jamie Eason's LiveFit Trainer

I love it.  I had gained some weight over the winter months. Weight that I had kept off for about a year and a half. I had gained about 11 pounds back of the 22 I had lost. This is a lot on a small person.

I have now lost that weight and I'm on the track to losing more :)

Here are a couple pics to show some progress. I'll post another progress pic in a week :)

Week 1

Week 6

Small changes, but I can feel them. Between the two sets of pics there is only a 6 pound difference. When I post next weeks pics there will be a 6 pound difference between them as well, for around 12 pounds lost.

My pants are looser, I feel stronger, I feel more energetic, and my booty is lifting!

Thanks for stopping in guys!

I havent totally disappeared....

Hey guys,

I'm here and obviously been on a bit of a blog hiatus. My bad....

Running went to the wayside for a while. I did the old port half last July and then my running slowly started to decrease, more and more. By October I had stopped running all together. I am now back in the game.

One of my struggles ever since I had Elijah in 2008 has been my weight. I currently weigh about 15 lbs more than I did before being pregnant. This might not sound like a lot, but it is for how short I am. Plus, I feel it. I hate it. Running wasn't doing it for me. Just running anyway...

So I am now weight training, building my muscle in hopes of improving my metabolism and its working. :) yay!

I'm in my fifth week of Jamie Eason's LiveFit program, found on www.bodybuilding.com. I love her program!

I will post pics at the end of the 12 week transformation, hopefully you all can see the changes :)

Thanks!

What have you all been up to?

(Note, no pics etc. d/t me writing this on the kindle. It's a pain in the you know what! LOL )
