Today's Workout

So instead of cross-training today, I ran! Mom showed up to the gym at my lunch time and I decided I would walk on the treadmill next to her, which actually turned into an interval . I ended up running 3.5 miles :-)!!

So, the weekly total is at 14 miles now.

Probably another 4 tomorrow and a rest day Saturday.

Already have a long run planned for Sunday with my bestie Steph - maybe 6 or 7??

The New Kicks

I picked up some new indoor running sneakers for myself at a local sports shop. (I've been using my Ascics Gel Nimbus 12's for way too long.) I always have a pair of treadmill running sneakers and a pair for running outside. I've been using Ascics for at least the past 10 years, but I have been thinking more and more about going to a minimalist style shoe. So, I bought these Under Armour Women's Reign running sneakers to try out for treadmill running.

I wore them for the first time yesterday for 4 miles and they felt great, no blisters, no slipping, and I definitely feel like my stride changed.  Instead of striking with my heel first I felt I landed with my mid-foot. This will be a good progression for me trying to run in my Vibram 5 Fingers on the treadmill too instead of solely walking in them.

I will make sure to check back in later to post about what I decided to do for a running/cross-training session today...Haven't made up my mind yet.

Weekly mileage total so far: 10.5 miles.

What type of shoe do you wear to run in?

What do you think about minimalist style sneakers and barefoot running?

Wonderful Wednesday

Like that fancy alliteration in my title?

Did not get my 5 miles in today. Thanks for asking Mike! lol. However, I did get 4 in on the treadmill and was pretty happy with that. I ran about 8:30min/mile pace. That also made me pretty happy.

This is what it looked like outside my front door the other day:

Now it has been in the 40s and very sloppy/slushy/brown-looking. I thought the above was much prettier! (But I'm ready for spring, without the mud, and some more outdoor running!)

I felt really good after my run, and I had a patient in the pool afterwards. That was perfect for getting my muscles to relax and stretch out. The pool at my clinic is always in the low to mid 90s - so warm :)

After a couple patients this afternoon I decided to polish of the bag I had leftover of this delicious sugary goodness:

Don't worry! That is not the only thing I had to eat today :)

I had Cheerios and a clementine at breakfast, grapes for a snack, celery with ranch dip, popcorn, and some soup at lunch, and then that 1/2 a bag of delicious sugary goodness!

I deserved it right??

What do you let yourself delve into for sugary treats?
Me: I love Jelly Belly, Nerds, and Airheads X-treme Sour Belts

How do you reward yourself for being consistent with your workouts that doesn't involve food?
Me: Work-out gear!

Running

It seems like a lot to have to dedicate time to everyday, but it is possible. I am lucky that my clinic is attached to a full gym. I  am able to fit my run in on my lunch break everyday. Today I did 3 miles and plan on 5 for tomorrow. (A little longer lunch break tomorrow.)

How could I tear myself away from this face to have me-time to run?

I just can't do it!

How do you fit in your runs/workouts?

What about your long runs?

Spotify Anyone?

Back to work this morning... About 10 inches of freshly fallen snow covering the 2 feet we already had. So as you can imagine, roads were great on the way to work. Just checked my schedule - a lot of aquatic patients today...guess I will be in the pool for a few hours!

Got my run in at lunch on the treadmill - 3.5 miles. The Spotify App on the kindle kept my interest a little longer today.  Listened to my 90s Grunge playlist which I have about 160 songs added to.

Love:

Definitely had that endorphin high at the end of my run that I was looking for. Was able to muster the energy to do a little strength training in the Nautilus room after chatting my mom up. Love that I work at a clinic that has a full gym.

Do you use Spotify? What keeps you moving on Spotify?

For me it is: Foo Fighters, Blink-182, The Offspring, RHCP, Green Day, Linkin Park, Sum 41, Limp Bizkit (yes lol), 311, Incubus, No Doubt, and Sublime - to name a few :)

Back in the Groove

After taking a couple weeks off from running, I'm getting back into the groove of things. We have had some awesome snow storms here, so I've mainly been on the treadmill. This however does not keep my attention for more than 3 or 4 miles. Even if I am watching Prison Break on Netflix on my Kindle Fire or listening to my running playlist on my nano my brain says "BORED" after a 5k. Running outside on icy roads is not conducive to my left hip flexor that gets sore with the change to a shorter stride. So I suffer on with the monotony of the mill.

Do you like the treadmill? Do you get bored like me?

Icy roads where you live?
